Black Eyed Peas Curry (Laal Chavli Chi Usal)
Ingredients
- ●Dried black eyed peas, soaked overnight
- ●Chopped potatoes
- ●Dried red chillies
- ●Curry leaves
- ●Coriander seeds
- ●Dried grated coconut
- ●One large onion
- ●Garlic
- ●Turmeric powder
- ●Chilli powder
- ●Kokam
- ●Mustard seeds
- ●Cumin seeds
- ●Salt
- ●Oil
- ●Fresh coriander
Instructions
Dry roast the red chillies, coriander seeds, curry leaves, and dried coconut till golden. Set aside and let it cool.
Sauté half the onion and garlic till golden brown. Let it cool.
Add the roasted spices, onion, and garlic to a grinder with some water and blend into a fine paste. Set aside.
In a pressure cooker, heat some oil and temper the mustard seeds and cumin seeds.
Add the remaining half of the chopped onion and sauté for a couple of minutes.
Add the kokam, turmeric, chilli powder, and salt. Sauté for a few minutes.
Add the black eyed peas and potatoes, then add the masala paste prepared earlier. Mix well.
Add enough hot water so that the black eyed peas and potatoes are fully submerged.
Put the lid on the pressure cooker and cook for 3 to 4 whistles on medium-low heat.
Once depressurised, garnish with fresh coriander and serve with roti or rice.
